Daxxify in Fountain Valley: What It Costs and How Long It Lasts

Daxxify in Fountain Valley is $13 per Botox-equivalent Unit — a botulinum toxin type A injection that temporarily softens frown lines between the brows [1]. In trials, none-or-mild lines held a median 24 weeks [2].

Daxxify (daxibotulinumtoxinA-lanm) is one of the three wrinkle relaxers we carry at Bare.co Skin Health and Medical Spa, alongside Dysport and Jeuveau; our wrinkle relaxer overview compares them. Its initial U.S. approval was in 2022, and its cosmetic approval covers one area: moderate to severe glabellar lines, the vertical "11s" between the brows, in adult patients [1]. We do not stock Botox (onabotulinumtoxinA). Individual results vary.

How does Daxxify work, and what is the peptide in it?

Daxxify is a 150 kDa botulinum toxin without accessory proteins, purified from Clostridium botulinum type A [1]. It cleaves SNAP-25, the protein nerve endings need to release acetylcholine — the signal that tells a muscle to contract [1]. The treated muscle contracts less, so the skin over it creases less, and the effect fades as neurotransmission recovers and new nerve endings form [1]. It works best on dynamic wrinkles; lines etched at rest respond more slowly [5].

Its inactive ingredients are L-histidine, L-histidine HCl monohydrate, polysorbate 20, RTP004 peptide, and trehalose dihydrate [1]. Human albumin is not on that list; the Dysport label, by comparison, states that product "contains albumin, a derivative of human blood," carrying an extremely remote risk for transmission of viral diseases and variant Creutzfeldt-Jakob disease [6]. That is a formulation difference, not a benefit claim: the label does not say the peptide makes Daxxify work better or last longer, and neither do we.

How long does Daxxify last?

The label publishes no median duration. It charts the share of trial subjects still rated none or mild over 36 weeks without stating a median, notes that "subjects were followed through at least Week 24 and then were discontinued from the study when both the investigator and subject scores returned to baseline," and directs that Daxxify be given no more frequently than every three months for any indication [1].

In a subgroup analysis of the SAKURA trials (2,785 patients), the median time to loss of none-or-mild glabellar line severity at maximum frown, judged by investigator and patient together, was 24.0 weeks — about five and a half months — in each of the three age subgroups [2].

Read "median" carefully: half of those patients had lost their none-or-mild rating before 24 weeks — that is not the same as their lines returning to where they started — and the label's three-month retreatment floor still applies [1]. Individual results vary.

How soon does Daxxify start working?

The label does not report a day-of-onset figure. Its two frown-line trials scored the primary endpoint at Week 4: treatment success was 74% for Daxxify versus 0% for placebo in both [1]. Cleveland Clinic's general guidance on botulinum toxin injections puts the first noticeable effect around the third or fourth day, with full results within 10 to 14 days [3].

What is the labeled Daxxify dose?

For frown lines, the label's total recommended dose is 40 Units per treatment session, "divided into five equal intramuscular injections of 8 Units each" [1].

Those 40 are Daxxify Units, the label's own measure. Our $13 per Unit price is per Botox-equivalent Unit, so your bill will not match the label's numbers one-for-one; your Unit count and written total are confirmed at your consultation.

Units do not travel between brands. Daxxify's potency units "are specific to the preparation and assay method utilized" and are not interchangeable with other botulinum toxin preparations [1]; the Dysport label says the same of its own Units [6]. A Unit count from a past Botox, Dysport, or Jeuveau visit does not convert into Daxxify Units.

Can Daxxify be used on forehead lines or crow's feet?

Daxxify's only cosmetic FDA indication is glabellar lines; it is separately approved for cervical dystonia, a medical condition [1]. Treating forehead lines, crow's feet, or any other cosmetic area with Daxxify is off-label — legal, common in aesthetic practice, and something you should be told plainly, and there is no labeled Daxxify dose for any other cosmetic area [1].

Who is not a candidate for Daxxify?

Daxxify is contraindicated with known hypersensitivity to any botulinum toxin preparation or Daxxify component, and where there is infection at the injection sites [1].

• Neuromuscular conditions. Peripheral motor neuropathic diseases, amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, and neuromuscular junctional disorders such as myasthenia gravis or Lambert-Eaton syndrome require monitoring for increased neuromuscular compromise after botulinum toxin [1].
• Pregnancy and breastfeeding. No available data on Daxxify in pregnant women, and no data on its presence in human or animal milk [1]. As a matter of practice policy, we do not perform any medical aesthetic treatments on pregnant or breastfeeding women.
• Other cautions in the literature: keloidal scarring, body dysmorphic disorder [5], existing eyelid drooping, and weak facial muscles [3].

What are the realistic risks of Daxxify?

Daxxify carries the class boxed warning: effects may spread from the injection area, and "swallowing and breathing difficulties can be life-threatening, and there have been reports of death" [1]. Trouble swallowing, speaking, or breathing needs urgent care.

In the frown-line trials, headache was reported in 6% of Daxxify patients versus 2% on placebo, eyelid ptosis (droop) in 2% versus 0%, and facial paresis in 1% versus 0% [1]. Effects on nearby muscles are temporary and technique-dependent [5]. Serious hypersensitivity reactions — anaphylaxis, serum sickness, urticaria, soft tissue edema, dyspnea — have been reported for botulinum toxin products [1].

Daxxify aftercare

• Stay upright about four hours after treatment [5][3].
• Do not rub, massage, or heat the area — rubbing can move product where it was not intended [4][5]; avoid pressure for 12 hours [3].
• Skip heavy exercise for 24 hours [3]; avoid alcohol and hot tubs the day of treatment [5].
• The literature advises stopping aspirin and supplements with anticoagulant effects two weeks before treatment [5]; ask your prescriber before pausing any medication.
