Dysport vs. Jeuveau vs. Daxxify vs. Botox: What's Different, and What We Carry in Fountain Valley

Bare.co Skin Health and Medical Spa in Fountain Valley carries the wrinkle relaxers Dysport, Jeuveau and Daxxify at $13 per Botox-equivalent Unit. We do not stock Botox. Units are not interchangeable between brands.

Short answer: Dysport, Jeuveau, Daxxify, and Botox Cosmetic are four FDA-approved botulinum toxin type A products. All are approved to temporarily soften moderate to severe frown lines between the brows, but they are different molecules dosed in units that are not interchangeable between brands. We carry Dysport, Jeuveau, and Daxxify. We do not stock Botox. Individual results vary.

How do the four molecules differ?

All four are botulinum toxin type A from Clostridium botulinum, and all work the same way: they block the nerve signal telling a muscle to contract, so the muscle relaxes and the skin over it creases less. [14]

What differs is the rest of the vial. Botox Cosmetic (onabotulinumtoxinA) is a purified neurotoxin complex — toxin plus naturally associated accessory proteins — with albumin and sodium chloride. [4] Jeuveau (prabotulinumtoxinA-xvfs) is a 900 kDa toxin with human serum albumin and sodium chloride. [3] Daxxify (daxibotulinumtoxinA-lanm) is a 150 kDa toxin without accessory proteins, formulated with L-histidine, trehalose, polysorbate 20, and a proprietary stabilizing peptide (RTP004) in place of human serum albumin. [1] Dysport (abobotulinumtoxinA) is formulated with human serum albumin and lactose, and because of the lactose its label carries a contraindication for people with a known hypersensitivity to cow's milk protein; its units are defined by its own potency assay and are unique to it. [2] No trial has compared all four head to head, so these differences don't produce a simple ranking.

Botox is the oldest of the four; Dysport is the only one whose cosmetic indication is limited by age. [2][8]

Why can't you compare units between brands?

Every one of these products says the same thing in its FDA labeling: its potency Units are specific to its own preparation and assay method, and are not interchangeable with other preparations of botulinum toxin products. [1][2][3][4] Botox Cosmetic's label puts it most plainly — its Units "cannot be compared to nor converted into Units of any other botulinum toxin products assessed with any other specific assay method." [4]

In practice Dysport is dosed in more units: 50 for its labeled frown-line dose, versus 20 for Jeuveau and Botox Cosmetic and 40 for Daxxify. [1][2][3][4] A systematic review of therapeutic chemodenervation studies in movement disorders found that no single fixed onabotulinumtoxinA-to-abobotulinumtoxinA conversion fit every situation [10]. That review covered therapeutic use, not cosmetic glabellar treatment, so it does not establish a cosmetic conversion ratio.

So "$13 per Unit" is not a label's dose multiplied by $13. The Unit we bill is a Botox-equivalent Unit, not the Unit each label uses, and your Unit count and written total are confirmed at your consultation before anything is injected.

How fast do they work, and how long do they last?

Most people see change within about 3 to 7 days, with fuller effect around 10 to 14 days. [14][15] One randomized study timing onset in glabellar lines found a median near 5.3 days for both onabotulinumtoxinA and abobotulinumtoxinA in women. [13] Results are temporary for all four, commonly about three to four months. [14][15] Dysport's label says its effect may last up to four months, with treatment no more often than every three months. [2]

On Daxxify's duration: in pooled results from its two phase 3 SAKURA trials (609 participants), Daxxify held frown lines at "none or mild" severity for a median of 24.0 weeks — about five and a half months. [9] Two caveats matter: that figure comes from Daxxify's own trials using its own definition of duration, not a head-to-head comparison, so it isn't proof that Daxxify outlasts the others in any given person; and its label still directs treatment no more often than every three months. [1]

On Jeuveau's evidence: in two identical phase 3 studies, 67.5% and 70.4% of participants met the responder endpoint at day 30, versus about 1% on placebo. [12] Those trials followed participants for 150 days, and the Jeuveau label does not state a duration of effect. [3][12] A separate 540-person trial found 20 units of prabotulinumtoxinA non-inferior to 20 units of onabotulinumtoxinA at day 30 (87.2% vs. 82.8% responders). [11]

For outside context, the American Society of Plastic Surgeons lists the average cost of botulinum toxin injections as $435, noting cost varies with product amount, provider, and location. [16] That's a national treatment average, not a per-Unit figure and not a Bare.co price. ASPS does not date this figure on its cost page. Payment plans are available through Cherry.

What are the risks, and who isn't a candidate?

Every botulinum toxin product carries an FDA boxed warning: effects may spread from the injection area and produce symptoms of botulinum toxin effect, and swallowing and breathing difficulties can be life-threatening, with reports of death. [1][2][3][4] This is rare at cosmetic doses.

More common, temporary effects include pain, swelling, redness or bruising at the injection site, headache, and eyelid drooping. [14] Treatment is generally not appropriate if you are pregnant or breastfeeding, or have a neuromuscular disease, existing eyelid drooping, or weak facial muscles [14]. As a matter of practice policy, we do not perform any medical aesthetic treatments on pregnant or breastfeeding women. Dysport is additionally contraindicated if you have a known hypersensitivity to cow's milk protein, and all botulinum toxin products are contraindicated if there is an infection at the planned injection site [1][2][3]. Typical aftercare: don't rub the area for 12 hours, stay upright three to four hours, and avoid heavy exertion for 24 hours. [14] Individual results vary.

Then we recommend one of our three products and confirm your Unit count and written total before anything is injected. For cosmetic use, all three products we carry are FDA-approved only for the frown lines between the brows; treating other areas, such as forehead lines or crow's feet, is off-label use of an FDA-approved product. [1][2][3] If tox isn't the right answer for what's bothering you, we'll say so — that might mean dermal filler, a biostimulator or PRF, or a skin treatment instead.

Do you offer Botox?

No. We carry Dysport, Jeuveau, and Daxxify, all FDA-approved botulinum toxin type A products, and we do not stock Botox (onabotulinumtoxinA). If you've had Botox before, tell us your past dose and how long it lasted so we can plan your dose with one of the products we carry.

Is Dysport more expensive because it's 50 units?

Dysport is $13 per Unit, the same rate as Jeuveau and Daxxify. Its labeled frown-line dose is written as 50 Dysport Units rather than 20 or 40 [1][2][3], but the Unit we bill is a Botox-equivalent Unit, a different measure, so your bill will not match the label's numbers one-for-one. How long does Daxxify actually last?

How soon will I see results, and how long will they last?

Most people notice change within about 3 to 7 days, with fuller effect by 10 to 14 days. [14][15] Duration is commonly around three to four months and varies by product, dose, and person. [2][14][15] Individual results vary.

Can I switch brands between appointments?
