Chin Filler in Fountain Valley: Non-Surgical Chin Augmentation

Chin filler in Fountain Valley is $800 — hyaluronic acid gel placed along the chin to add projection and balance the profile. Results are temporary.

Chin filler at Bare.co Skin Health and Medical Spa is hyaluronic acid (HA) gel injected over the chin to change its profile. In a randomized trial of one HA filler, Restylane Defyne, for mild to moderate chin retrusion, 81 percent of treated participants improved at least one grade at week 12 versus 6 percent of controls, and 74 versus 11 percent at week 48 [1]. Restylane Defyne is in the Restylane family we stock, and the FDA has approved it for injection into the chin region to improve the chin profile appearance in patients over the age of 21 [12]. What does chin filler correct, and why does it change a profile?

Chin filler treats a chin that sits back from the rest of the face — a retruded or recessed chin — or one that looks short from lower lip to base. Added volume moves the chin point forward, down, or both, and can soften the crease below the lower lip.

The chin affects the overall balance and harmony of the face [1]. It sits at the end of the profile line, so a change there is easy to see from the side. Who is a good candidate for chin filler?

Good candidates are adults in good health who want a specific change to chin projection or shape and accept that all hyaluronic acid fillers are temporary [3]. Fillers are not recommended for people with a current oral herpes infection, uncontrolled diabetes, blood-clotting problems, lupus, or another connective tissue disorder [3]. We also do not treat over active infection or inflammation, and we do not perform any medical aesthetic treatments on pregnant or breastfeeding women; tell us about blood thinners and prior filler.

How much product is typical, and how long does it last?

In a systematic review of 24 studies in which 2,259 patients received HA for the chin, 0.30 to 3.90 mL was injected per patient, mean 2 mL [2]. That is a published range, not a quote for you; your amount and total are agreed before injecting.

Duration in those studies ran from one month to more than 18 months, mean 13 months [2]. In a trial of a different product, VYC-20L, which we do not stock, 56.3 percent of treated participants responded at month 6 versus 27.5 percent of untreated controls, with benefit still evident at month 12 [4]. Each figure belongs to the product studied. Individual results vary.

What happens at the appointment, and what is aftercare?

At the consultation we review your goals, history and medications, take photos, and agree the plan and price. A $100 deposit is collected when you book a consultation and is credited toward your treatment. It is forfeited for a no-show or a late cancellation — cancellations and rebooking need more than 72 hours' notice. For comfort we use topical numbing cream, lidocaine mixed into the filler, dental or local nerve blocks, and ice; which one we use depends on the technique, the area being treated and your own comfort. Injections cause some discomfort but are usually easily tolerated [5]. Appointments run 45 to 60 minutes. We stock the RHA Collection, Restylane, Revanesse Versa and SkinVive (Juvéderm); indications differ by product and area, so we tell you whether your treatment is on-label or off-label and document it in your consent.

Afterward, avoid intense physical activity for 24 to 48 hours to limit swelling and bruising [6]. Swelling, bruising and small lumps usually ease with icing and massage within hours or a few days [6]. Seek care immediately for a visual disturbance with pain or weakness on one side of your body [6].

What are the risks of chin filler?

Common effects are swelling, bruising, bleeding and lumps; less often numbness, allergic reaction, infection or filler movement [3]. The Defyne chin trial reported mild to moderate treatment-related adverse events [1].

The serious risk is vascular. The submental artery, the largest branch of the facial artery in the neck, reaches the chin and links with the inferior labial and mental arteries — a potential risk factor for a vascular accident during chin filler injection [8]. Blocked blood flow can cause skin necrosis — ulceration or loss of skin — and, where eye vessels are involved, loss of eyesight [7]. Severe complications from dermal fillers are uncommon [7], but not zero.

We stock hyaluronidase. The product we use is Hylenex. Guidance describes low or moderate doses of this enzyme for problems such as lumps, and immediate high-dose treatment for vascular occlusion [9]. Dissolving cosmetic filler is off-label use of an FDA-approved medication. Its label reports allergic reactions (urticaria or angioedema) in fewer than 0.1 percent of patients and contraindicates it in known hypersensitivity [10]. If your allergy history is unknown, we do a patch test first, and epinephrine is kept on site. Filler Reversal is $275 per vial of hyaluronidase. We reassess at about two weeks, and if more dissolving is needed then, it is again $275 per vial. Our filler dissolving page covers it in full.

Chin filler or a chin implant?

A chin implant is a surgical procedure to enhance a small or recessed chin [11]. It is done under local anesthesia, sedation or general anesthesia; Cleveland Clinic advises taking it easy for a week or two afterward and lists risks including a shifted implant, infection, nerve injury and bone erosion [11]. Cleveland Clinic notes that fillers are nonsurgical and fade over time [11]; HA filler can also be reversed with hyaluronidase if needed [9]. We do not perform chin implant surgery at Bare.co; if surgery suits you better we will suggest a surgeon. Individual results vary.
